Clipping Your Cat’s Nails

Everyone loves a spa day now and then. For your cat, a manicure will help everyone live together more harmoniously. For tips, check with your Jacksonville veterinarian.

Tools

Always make sure that you’re using the right tools. Your Jacksonville veterinarian can help with this. Pay attention when you do this to make sure you don’t clip too much of the nails. Don’t use fingernail clippers as these can be damaging or uncomfortable.

Be Careful

Extract the claws by placing your finger on the top and bottom of the paw, just behind the paw pad. Always check with your Jacksonville veterinarian for more details. Snip the very ends of them to make sure that you do not cut too deeply. Stay away from the pink area, also known as “the quick”.

Stay Patient

You might not be able to clip all of the nails in one sitting. Cats are notoriously attracted to different things and may not remain still. Try them over the course of a few days.

Your Jacksonville veterinarian will be able to provide suggestions also where this could be professionally done.
