Halloween Pet Hazards

When Halloween rolls around this year, it’s imperative that you keep your pet’s safety in mind. Halloween is one of the most hazardous days of the whole year for our animal companions!  Here, your veterinarians Glendale, AZ tells you how to keep your pet safe.

Chocolate and Candy

Chocolate and candy abound this time of year. Remember: both are very hazardous for our pets! Chocolate of all types contains caffeine and theobromine, two chemicals that can cause poisoning in animals. Candies are often sweetened with an artificial sugar, xylitol, that is very toxic to pets.

Costumes

Dressing your pet up in their own Halloween costume is a lot of fun. Just make sure that your pet is comfortable wearing clothing—some pets can be quite stressed out by this. Also, check your pet’s costume to remove any small parts that could be swallowed or choked on.

Escape

With the doorbell ringing frequently on trick-or-treat night, your pet might get worked up. When opening the door for trick-or-treaters, make sure your pet can’t slip out into the night! It may be safest to secure them in another room entirely.
