Keeping Your Dog Safe This Halloween

Halloween is one of the most dangerous holidays of the year for our dogs. It’s important to keep Fido’s safety in mind this time of year, or you risk dealing with a real nightmare! Learn more here from a vet in Plano, TX.

Chocolate and Candy

Chocolate and candy are abundant this time of year, and they’re very hazardous for our canine companions. Chocolate of all types contains theobromine and caffeine, chemicals that can harm dogs easily. Many candies are sweetened with an artificial sugar called xylitol; this substance can cause vomiting, diarrhea, seizures, and worse.

Trick-or-treat night presents an escape hazard for dogs since the front door will be opening frequently as trick-or-treaters ring the bell. If your dog is the type to dart out of the first open door he can find, it’s safest to keep him secured in a crate.

Costume Tips

Fido will certainly look adorable dressed up in his very own costume. Just make sure it doesn’t contain small parts that could be choked on or swallowed, and don’t dress your dog up if a costume stresses him out.
