Pets’ Seasonal Allergies

This spring, your seasonal allergies may be flaring up, but have you noticed if your pets’ allergies are, too? Cats and dogs can be allergic to pollen and other indoor and outdoor allergens. If you’re uncertain about their symptoms, check with your Orangevale vet clinic.

Symptoms

To tell if your pet has allergies, look for common symptoms. If your cat or dog is scratching or licking themselves more than normal, that may be a sign of a skin allergy. Hair loss can occur. Cats with severe allergies may have open sores or discharge in their ears. If you see these symptoms in your pet, talk to your Orangevale vet clinic immediately.

Prevention

You can help prevent your pets’ seasonal allergy symptoms the same ways you do your own– being careful not to bring pollen inside on your clothes, and keeping your pets and their sleeping areas. Your Orangevale vet clinic may have other suggestions.

Medication

Your pets may need a skin test to determine the source of their allergies. A variety of treatments are available depending on the type and severity of the allergy. Your Animal hospital Orangevale, CA can help you choose the right one.
