Readying Your Home for a Puppy

Are you going to be bringing home a puppy in the near future? Make sure your household is prepared! Use these tips from a Portland, OR veterinarian to help yourself do just that:

Remove Hazards

Get rid of any hazardous plants, toxic foods or beverages, sharp objects, loose wires or cords, small objects that could be choked on or swallowed, and any other hazards you find. You don’t want your puppy coming into contact with something harmful! Consult your vet to find out more about keeping your new addition safe at home.

Block Off Rooms

Try using dog gates or baby gates to block off certain rooms in the home. This way, you can keep your puppy contained, at least at first. This makes it a lot easier to keep your pup’s space hazard-free and to keep track of your pet.

Set Guidelines

Make sure all family members are on the same page when it comes to your puppy’s routine. This includes things like bathroom breaks, meal times, portion size, etc.
